Isshiki Kazari is a folk art born from the faith of Hirata Tenjin Shrine, and is characterized by its interesting and beautiful form using pottery and lacquerware. Its origins date back to when an epidemic in the town of Hirata was eradicated by a divine visit to Umi Shrine, and a "Daikokuten statue" was made out of a set of tea utensils to welcome the god. This tradition has continued for over 230 years, and is still carried on today at the Hirata Tenmangu Shrine's summer festival.

In this experience, you will use wire to create a small set of decorative lanterns, and under the guidance of the preservation society, you will be able to learn traditional techniques and make your own original lantern.
Experience the charm of the city while learning about historical techniques.
