After the explanation of the process of making soy sauce and the types of soy sauce, we tasted four types of soy sauce, which made it easier to understand what was being explained. The talk was interesting and I enjoyed learning.

The cheerful shop owner explained the different types of soy sauce to me. He interacted with me with such enthusiasm—it reminded me of elementary school classes—that it made me feel nostalgic. The soy sauce I actually tasted had a different flavor from the kind sold at supermarkets in my hometown, and I realized just how much variety there is in soy sauce. I left the shop briefly to grab lunch, then returned to Okamoriichiro Shoten to try the soy sauce ice cream. When I walked back in, the owner greeted me with “Welcome back!” and shared stories about the shop and gave me advice on visiting Izumo Taisha—it really made me feel the warmth of human connection. The ice cream had a caramel-like flavor and was absolutely delicious. Thank you so much for this experience.
